SAARC Summit

SAARC Summits are the highest level of authority in South Asia Association of Regional Countries (SAARC). SAARC summits are usually held annually and are attended by the heads of Governments/States of the member countries. Country playing host to the Summit holds the Chair of the Association. First SAARC Summit was held in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, in 1985.

Prior to the first SAARC Summit in Dhaka, preparatory meetings were held. A seminar of SAARC Foreign Secretaries was held in 1981 in Colombo, while meeting of Foreign Ministers was held in 1983 in New Delhi, capital of India.
